Smart Backyard BBQ Network

Abstract:

Our smart barbeque network will be an IoT network that utilises sensors in the barbeque, to gather and transmit live information from the barbeque to microcontrollers. These microcontrollers process the information received from sensors and automatically change barbeque conditions to ensure that the meat is cooked how the user wishes. Our network will also provide users with the ability to control a barbeque while being somewhere else, through the use of an application. To ensure that our IoT network will be efficient in transmitting and processing information, we will implement network segmentation, and reduce the amount of distance information must travel. These methods will ensure that the network is secure, and reduce the chances of packet loss within the network, so that the user can enjoy their barbeque experience.
Our Smart Barbeque Network project aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting innovation, sustainability, and efficient resource use. It directly supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure through the use of IoT technology, sensors, and microcontrollers to create a smart, connected cooking system. The project enhances network efficiency and security, contributing to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, where technology is used to improve modern lifestyles safely and sustainably. Additionally, by optimising energy use and reducing unnecessary fuel or power consumption during cooking, the project supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
